Get TENS Therapy in Scarborough, ON

Migraines and muscle pain are tough to deal with, even more so when you don’t want to take medication. Does this sound like you? Are you the type of person who would prefer drug-free alternatives to relieve pain? We have the solution.

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) Therapy uses electrical stimulation to treat pain.

Using a TENS machine, we can provide a safe alternative to drugs. Low-voltage electric currents block pain signals from reaching your brain and stimulate the release of your body’s natural pain-relief chemical, endorphins.  Our experienced and expert therapists at Activa’s Scarborough Clinic offer TENS Therapy

Understanding What TENS Therapy Is and What It Isn’t

This type of therapy treats pain by sending low-voltage electric currents to the site of pain. A TENS therapist uses a tiny device to deliver the current either at the nerve or near it. The current then blocks or changes the way you perceive the pain. The procedure is non-invasive and safe to use.

Your therapist will clean and dry the site at which they will apply the electrodes. Once the electrodes are firmly stuck to your skin, the process will begin

Once you have had a few sessions, we can then show you how to use the TENS machine, and you can then administer your treatment from the comfort of your own home.

Types of Tens Machines

1. Electrode patch type

This type of machine sends currents through patches that are placed on either side of the painful area.

2. Needle type / acupuncture-like

Now that you have a brief understanding of how TENS therapy works, you know that conventional TENS is when sticky pads transmit electrical impulses to the skin and into the muscles are placed next to the site of pain.

Therapists have found that combining TENS therapy with dry needling can be an even more effective form of pain relief. With the addition of the needling treatment, muscles can be stimulated on a deeper level.

Both methods remain safe, non-invasive and pain-free.

TENS Therapy Is Not for Everybody:
