Hamilton Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is best known for its health and wellness boosting benefits, with a documented application of this holistic practice dating back to 3000 BCE in India. Hindu practitioners of Ayurveda, an ancient life-health medicine, used massage therapy to realize four health-centric benefits.

  • To offer relief from bodily pain that’s due to disease or physical injury
  • To promote rapid healing and recovery from physical injuries
  • To prevent worsening and emergence of a new illness from a preexisting condition
  • To halt the progress of disease and physical conditions affecting the body

Over a 5000-year span, various notable Roman, Greek, Swedish and modern-day physicians have advanced this ancient holistic therapy and transformed precise goal-oriented massage techniques.Consequently, you can access a wide range of specialized massage techniques at Activa Clinics’ Hamilton rehabilitation center.

Consultation

During your consultation, an Activa CMTO-certified massage therapist asks you a series of questions that help him/her evaluate your condition, and determine which massage techniques are best.

These questions address several vital aspects related to your condition, such as: –

  • Whether you have cardiovascular and nervous system issues because such conditions are often adversely affected by massage therapy
  • Whether you are using certain pharmaceuticals to manage an existing cardiovascular problem, e.g., high blood pressure
  • Which areas of your body exhibit intermittent or chronic pain
  • What you expect from the massage therapy session
  • Whether you have concerns about undressing for the procedure

It’s best to be completely truthful in your answers as concealing important facts about your condition not only renders your massage ineffective but can also lead to adverse effects.

Massage Therapy Session

After your interview, your massage therapist leaves the room to allow you to comfortably undress before lying on the massage table. Ensure that you cover any parts of your body you don’t want to be exposed using the drapery provided on or near the table. Your Activa RMT(Registered Massage Therapist) then knocks before reentering and proceeds to brief you on the techniques he/she intends to administer during the session. The Activa Clinics’ CMTO-certified RMT administers your custom Activa massage therapy in the following manner: –

  • He/she starts by exposing the part of your body that’s to be massaged
  • The RMT then applies warm oil on his/her hands to minimize friction and allow easy movement over the skin
  • Using the edge of the palm, thumb, and palm on both hands, your massage therapist then begins applying pressure over the affected area in slow one-directional stokes, a massage technique called Effleurage.
  • After using Effleurage for about 10 min to feel out the condition of tissue in the target area,  he/she then switches to Petrisage, a series of kneading motions involving squeezing,  pinching, rolling, picking up, and pressing down. Petrissage can last for up to 20minutes.
  • Your Activa CMTO-certified RMT may also incorporate Percussion/Tapotement into your massage therapy, a technique that involves gently pounding the affected area using the edge of the palm.
  • Your RMT then switches back to Effleurage near the end of your 30 to 40minutes massage therapy session.

Once your message concludes, the RMT leaves the room to allow you to put your clothes back on. He/she then returns, asks how you feel after the massage, and then schedules your massage therapy session.
