Kitchener Acupuncture

Acupuncture may be an ancient Chinese art form, but for residents of Kitchener, it doesn’t need to be a distant or exotic practice at all.

Modern acupuncture is used by everyone from performance athletes to restive retirees, all in the hopes of getting the most out of their body. Acupuncture treatments can quiet aching nerves, stimulate stiff muscles, and provide relief and improved function across the body.

At Activa Clinics, we’ve integrated acupuncture as part of our extensive holistic health programs, offering access to some of Canada’s finest acupuncturists at our Activa Clinics locations in Kitchener and across Canada.

What is Acupuncture Therapy?

The practice of acupuncture involves the insertion of small needles into specific points on the body.

This is a minimally invasive procedure which produces little to no pain and minimal discomfort when performed properly — in fact, many patients find acupuncture treatments relaxing.

The history of acupuncture dates back as far as 2,500 years when it was already being practiced in ancient China.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains the effects of acupuncture as being important in balancing the body’s qi (氣), an invisible energy which flows through the human body and is responsible for regulating its health and ability.

Modern Western medical opinions often suggest that acupuncture achieves its effects by stimulating key areas linked to specific nerves, muscles, and connective tissues.

The extremely minute micro-injuries created by acupuncture therapy may be enough to stimulate the body’s natural healing mechanisms to kick into overdrive. The body responds by boosting blood circulation, activating healing mechanisms, boosting immune response, and modulating the body’s response to pain.

I Want to Try Acupuncture, But… I’m Afraid of Needles!

So you’ve heard about the benefits of acupuncture and want to try it, but just can’t get past your fear of needles?

Until very recently, this would have certainly been a dealbreaker. After all, a needle is the indispensable instrument of acupuncture.

That is, until modern science came along to change things.

At Activa Clinics, we now offer 100% needle free acupuncture treatments!

This revolutionary technique uses a cold-laser system which creates extremely small and precisely targeted laser beams.

Relying on the same principles as traditional acupuncture, these laser pulses are targeted to key locations on the body. The laser produces a similar type of stimulation and micro-injury as a needle, allowing you to experience the benefits of acupuncture without any needles at all.

Kitchener Acupuncture Activa Clinics FAQs

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Yes. Acupuncture can be done safely during pregnancy. However, consult with your OBGYN before scheduling any acupuncture appointments.
Do you need to sleep during acupuncture treatment?

It is not necessary to sleep during your acupuncture treatment. Some patients find the experience relaxing and may drift to sleep. While some may feel that they get more benefit from their acupuncture session if they fall asleep, this is not necessary nor strongly supported by evidence.

Is Dry Needling the same as Acupuncture?

Dry Needling is a modern treatment designed to target trigger points to stimulate muscles and nerves to alleviate pain and discomfort. While very similar in many respects to acupuncture, it is a modern technique developed based on evidence based practice. Unlike acupuncture, dry needling does not seek to align qi or redirect the body’s energy flow.
